2007 could be the most corrupt congress ever

Don Surber, conservative blogger and columnist for the Charleston Daily Mail, makes a good case for the claim that 2007 could be the most corrupt congress ever.

The Senate and House leaders have been accusing the Republicans of corruption but it's just a smoke screen to hide their own transgressions.

Culture of corruption

Sure, there has been corruption on both sides of the isle but the liberal media predictably downplays most of the corruption which has been by Democrats in congress.

Link to story here.

What a difference a win makes

For the first time in several years the Democrats have not called out their lawyers en masse to challenge an election outcome and call for recounts. Sometimes recounts of recounts.

There is a great article here titled: OK, Democrats: Time to show your plan.

Ouch. Did anyone get the license number on that speeding donkey that just flattened an elephant?

Memo to Democrats: Congratulations. Enjoy the champagne but take it easy on the freak dancing. Act like you've been in the end zone before. And call off the swarm of lawyers. It was a fair election (meaning you won).

Democrats have been chasing Republican cars since 1994. But it's not exactly clear if they finally caught one or just caught up after Republicans swerved into a ditch.

Now it’s time for the Democrats to show a plan. I mean a real plan for governing.

For the last twelve years the only Democratic plan was to get back in power. Criticizing and sharpshooting Republicans is not a governing plan.

Monowi, Nebraska population of 1

The town of Monowi, Nebraska was thrust back in the news Sunday when the CBS Sunday Morning Show had a segment by Bill Geist who went to Nebraska and interviewed Elsie Eiler, the lone resident of Monowi.

We posted about Monowi here with an article titled: Monowi, Nebraska: population of 1, and a 5,000 book library.

The sign greeting motorists entering Monowi boasts a population of 2.

However, that is an exaggeration. The population is actually only 1.

The entire population of Monowi, Nebraska, is sitting in a bar. Her name is Elsie Eiler, 72.

Monowi, founded by Czech immigrants seeking a slice of the American dream, is on its last legs. Only Eiler is left, surrounded by the ruins of homes that once boasted families, neighbors and friends.

This town is an extreme example of what has happened across America's heartland.

The depopulation of the countryside over the last 50 years has been called the largest migration in American history.

Nowhere is that more starkly illustrated than on the Great Plains, which includes Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma.

They defined much of the American self-image, a land of family farms, hard work and mom's apple pie.

There is precious little left of the town of Monowi.

Mrs. Elsie Eiler is in control. She is the mayor, police chief, town clerk, bartender, librarian and entire business and residential community.

Please Note:

Althought this posting was written about Elsie Eiler, it was not written by Mrs. Eiler.

I am not sure how you can contact her. The zip code for Monowi is not listed in zip code directories. However, the zip code for O’Neill, Nebraska is 68763.

Voter turnout higher than previous midterm elections

Nationally, voter turnout was more than 40 percent this year which was higher than in the last midterm election.

The photo shows a voter in Loveland, Colorado where turnout was much higher than the national average.

The Larimer County Clerk in Fort Collins reported a 76 percent turnout -- a record turnout for a midterm Congressional election.

Silent airliner on the horizon

Researchers at MIT and Cambridge University have designed a plane that will carry 215 passengers, radically reduce airport noise and save fuel.

As well as cutting engine noise, the designers focused on adapting the structure of the aircraft, which is responsible for half of the noise a plane creates on landing.

To do this they created a single flying wing, with the body of the aircraft also functioning to give lift.

This allows a slower approach which reduces noise as well as improving fuel efficiency at cruising altitudes, the researchers say.

This aircraft is expected to go into service in the year 2030.

Made in the USA

John Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 a.m.

While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG).

He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).

After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today.

After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.

At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, John decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in.....AMERICA.....

Will the exit polls today be as flawed as in 2004?

The flawed exit polling in 2004 was so far off USA Today reported:

The 2004 numbers were the most skewed since joint exit polling began in the 1980s.

In 2004, National Election Pool (NEP) incorrectly projected victories for Sen. John Kerry.

Just what is the NEP anyway?

The National Election Pool was created jointly by ABC, AP, CBS, CNN, Fox, And NBC.

The NEP was intended to provide tabulated vote counts as well as exit poll surveys on election day.

Since all of the NEP participants, with the exception of Fox, have a definite liberal bias it is easy to realize why the exit polling, especially in 2004, was skewed in favor of Democratic candidates.

The results of exit polling in the eastern states can have an effect on voting in western states.

Here’s what happened in 2004:

In the 32 states with exit poll estimates for both a presidential race and a senate race, the average error on the difference between the top two candidates was 3.6 points in favor of the Democratic senatorial candidates.

The error was 5 points in favor of Kerry for president.

A classic case of liberals trying to influence the voting in western states by providing skewed exit poll results from eastern states.

Will it happen again this year? It probably will.

Her ashes scattered over Wal-Mart

An elderly woman decided to prepare her will and told her pastor she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Wal-Mart.

"Wal-Mart?" the puzzled pastor asked "Why Wal-Mart?"

"Then I'll be sure my daughters will always visit me twice a week"

John Kerry’s Humpty Dumpty fall

This is another Kerry gift that will keep on giving

There are many thousands in the armed forces that are proud to be “not as smart as Jon Cary.”

So much for John Kerry being a uniter rather than a divider.

The Democratic Party won’t dare support him for another run at the White House.

All the king’s horses (liberal newspapers led by New York Times) and all the king’s men (liberal TV media led by CNN and MSNBC) could put John Kerry back together again.

Assesing the damage caused by Kerry’s “botched joke” can be found here.

Will sea fish go the way of the Dodo bird?

Some observers are warning that over fishing may diminish seafood population.

There will be virtually nothing left to fish from the seas by the middle of the century if current trends continue, according to a major scientific study.

Look at the bright side. By the middle of the century we won’t be able to plug our arteries with deep fat fried fish sticks.

Euro bills in Germany mysteriously disintegrating

Now you see them, now you don't. What is causing €50 notes to disintegrate?

German officials are trying to figure out how some 1,500 Euro banknotes were contaminated with acid, sometimes causing the brittle bills to disintegrate.

The notes, most of them in denominations of less than €100 (US$128), started surfacing in June, according to Germany's central bank, the Bundesbank.

So far, the disappearing cash has been found in 17 cities.

These bills are genuine notes. They are not counterfeit bills.

Just how the bills became contaminated with acid is not know.

No flip-flopping in Kerry’s dislike for military

John Kerry’s latest insult to the military is, as they say, is déjà vu all over again.

During a Vietnam-era run for Congress three decades ago, John Kerry said he opposed a volunteer Army because it would be dominated by the underprivileged, be less accountable and be more prone to "the perpetuation of war crimes."

"I am convinced a volunteer army would be an army of the poor and the black and the brown," Kerry wrote.

Kerry’s latest insult aimed at the military is part of his long-standing deep-seated dislike for the military. No flip-flopping here.

Insulting our military is a Kerry habit. He has taken Ted Kennedy’s place as the poster boy for what’s wrong with the left wing of the Democratic Party.
